Warth sits at 1,500m on the quiet edge of the Arlberg, Austria’s largest connected ski area, and gets more snow than any other resort in the Alps, around eleven metres a season. Students stay in a private hotel 20 minutes away by ski bus, ski 305km of pistes on one pass, and spend the evenings night tobogganing, exploring the village with a torchlight and swimming at the pool in the next village.

PRIVATE HOTEL

A TRADITIONAL TYROLEAN HOTEL

A traditional Tyrolean hotel in a quiet village in the Lech Valley, 20 minutes from the Warth lifts by the group’s own private ski bus each morning. Groups of 60 or more have the whole hotel to themselves.

Students share modern ensuite rooms, and staff have private rooms. Downstairs there is a games room with table tennis and air hockey, a lounge for the group’s quiz nights, a ski and boot room with dryers, and a Finnish sauna kept for the teachers.

The restaurant serves a breakfast buffet and a four-course evening meal, and lunch is a hot meal on the mountain each day. Dietary requirements are catered for once the school has sent them to us.

The village has a doctor two minutes’ walk from the hotel, and the valley’s 200-metre suspension bridge is a torchlit evening walk away. Our Schools Go Skiing Leader stays with the group all week.

SKIING IN THE ARLBERG

Warth-Schröcken is the snow-sure corner of Ski Arlberg: 305km of pistes and 85 lifts across Warth, Lech, Zürs, St. Anton and Stuben, between 1,304m and 2,800m, with a gondola linking Warth straight into Lech. Lessons run five hours a day in groups of eight to ten students per instructor.

Eleven metres of snow

Warth’s own slopes rise from the village at 1,500m to 2,050m and take the weather that comes in from the north, which is why the resort averages around eleven metres of snow a winter, more than anywhere else in the Alps. The season runs from early December to mid April, with the pistes groomed overnight.

Quiet slopes, 305km on the pass

Beginners learn on the wide, gentle slopes above Warth, which stay quiet because the crowds head for St. Anton and Lech. Intermediates ride the gondola across to Lech and Zürs and ski back on long reds, and stronger skiers have the whole Arlberg on the same pass.

Lessons with Warth Ski School

Lessons are with Warth Ski School, which specialises in school groups, in groups of eight to ten students per instructor for five hours a day, with a hot lunch on the mountain in between. Equipment is fitted in Warth on the first morning, and the last afternoon ends with a race, conditions allowing, and an awards ceremony.

Skis or a snowboard, boots, poles and a helmet for every student, fitted in Warth on the first morning and matched to each one’s height, weight and ability.

EAT AND DRINK

A breakfast buffet at the hotel, a hot lunch on the mountain every day and a four-course dinner back at the hotel, with one evening at a traditional Tyrolean inn in the valley. Dietary requirements are catered for.

ACTIVITIES

Evenings are night tobogganing on a floodlit run in Warth, a torchlight hike to the 200-metre suspension bridge, a swim at the pool ten minutes down the valley, a jewellery workshop, hotel games and a quiz with the end-of-week awards, all included.

TRANSPORT

Flights into Zurich or Friedrichshafen, about two and a half hours from the hotel, or Munich at three, with a private coach waiting at arrivals. In resort the group has its own ski bus to the Warth lifts each morning and back each afternoon.
